Grade Level Standard

This is aligned the following California State Standards:

  • RL.9-10.3 - Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

Linkage Level Descriptions

Initial Precursor

The student can demonstrate understanding that there are subgroups within a broad category by sorting objects into appropriate general categories (e.g., manually sorting objects, verbally stating object categories).

Distal Precursor

The student can identify the feelings of specific characters in a familiar story by selecting feelings words from multiple answer options. The student can also identify feelings words within a familiar text.

Proximal Precursor

The student can identify and describe the internal and external traits of a character, including how the character is feeling.

Target

The student can identify how a specific character develops or changes over the course of a story.
