Initial Precursor

The student can identify concrete details in a familiar story, including characters and objects.

Distal Precursor

After reading a text, the student can recognize that questions can be answered by referring to the narrative and can answer these explicit questions.

Proximal Precursor

After reading a text, the student is able to use details stated in explicit information to later cite textual evidence.

Target

The student can recognize that texts can be used to support explicit and inferred information and can distinguish between citations in a text which refer to either explicit or implicit information.

After reading a narrative text, the student can correctly determine the explicit meaning of the text using information explicitly stated in the text.
